THE CLASS WILL DEDICATE THEIR COLORS RUN TO THE MEMORY OF DEPUTY IRMA
ALVAREZ, WHO WAS THE FIRST FEMALE PEACE OFFICER TO BE SHOT IN THE LINE OF
DUTY. ON AUGUST 28, 1975, DEPUTY ALVAREZ CONDUCTED A TRAFFIC STOP OF A
SPEEDING VEHICLE IN PICO RIVERA. UNBEKNOWNST TO HER, THE TWO OCCUPANTS HAD JUST COMMITED AN ARMED ROBBERY. DURING THE TRAFFIC STOP, ONE OF THE ASSAILANTS SHOT DEPUTY ALVAREZ IN THE CHEST AND ARM.
DEPUTY ALVAREZ SURVIVED HER INJURIES AND LATER RETURNED BACK TO PATROL DUTY AT PICO RIVERA STATION. IRMA Z. ALVAREZ LIVED A LONG HAPPY LIFE AND RECENTLY PASSED AWAY ON MAY 23, 2022.
